Piloting Faith: Do something different...
A Word for the Day...
The adage goes, “If you want something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.”
With the rise in popularity of people like Marie Kondo, I wonder if we are finally moving through the soul-killing cycle of endless consumerism. Maybe we are at the place where when we hear this adage, we don’t immediately think of material things. Perhaps we can instead hear it as the grand call to an adventurous life, one filled with self-discovery, joy, sorrow, and finally fully living into our human "heroic journey."
This past week, I had the privilege of having a conversation with a wise soul named Sue. She is a psychotherapist and pastor. She told me that in her listening to people talking about their greatest desires, it always came down to a simple truth: We all want to feel that we are making a difference. We want to live lives of meaning.
Perhaps what we "have never had" that we are seeking is the sense that we matter. If so, our adventure begins when we live as if it was so.
